Egypt port fees explained
Port cost is usually several bills: terminal storage, shipping line demurrage, and detention. Know which clock you are on before cargo sits.
Clearance fees and port fees
Hendy's clearance work is one cost. Duties and taxes are another. Terminal storage and shipping line charges are separate again. Mixing them up makes invoices look unfair when they are just different bills.
Port storage
Port storage is the terminal's charge for the space your cargo occupies after free time. When Form 4 is late or the file is incomplete, storage is often the first bill that climbs. Exact free days and rates depend on the terminal and the cargo.
Demurrage
Demurrage is usually the shipping line's charge for keeping their container longer than the free days they allow at the terminal. Port storage is the terminal's own space charge. Both can rise at once.
Detention
Detention is a related line charge that often applies after the container leaves the port and comes back late. Plan the empty return when you plan the truck.
How to cut avoidable cost
Finish the customs file before free time ends. Move cargo off the terminal after release. Use warehouse space in Alexandria or Cairo when you need a cheaper place to wait than the terminal. Day rates come from your line and terminal, so we quote them against your file.
Talk to the clearance desk
Send the port, the product, and the arrival window. We will tell you what the clearance file needs and what to watch on storage timing.
